Question #2: Is there a certain duration of marriage before one person can sponsor the other?

Answer: For a common law or defacto relationship, there are certain requirements regarding this, however, for a marriage, there isn’t.

Remember though that the married couple must live together in a genuine relationship for two years from the day he/she obtained PR if they have been in a relationship for 2 years or less, do not have children in common and Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) got their application on or after October 25, 2012.
